The Surgical Technician assists surgeons and nurses in the operating room, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment. This role involves preparing the operating room, sterilizing and arranging equipment, and assisting the surgical team during procedures. The Surgical Technician must have a strong understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and sterilized.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members.
- Assist with patient positioning and prepping.
- Handle specimens according to established protocols.
- Clean and restock the operating room after procedures.
- Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
- BLS certification.
- Experience in General OR, Teaching Hospital, and Trauma settings.
- Proficiency in Direct Laryngoscopy, Radial neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy.
- Proficiency in Colonoscopy, EGD, Peg tube placement/exchange.
- Proficiency in Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection - Open/LAP, Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy partial/total.
- Proficiency in Abdominal hysterectomy, Anterior/Posterior repair, Bilateral tubal ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal Hysterectomy.
- Proficiency in Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion.
- Proficiency in Repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic.
- Proficiency in Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open reduction of fractures, Laminectomy/discectomy.
- Proficiency in Free Flap - Microvascular.
- Proficiency in Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, MVA (multiple injuries).
- Proficiency in Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy.
- Proficiency in Fire Safety.
- Proficiency in Drills (multiple types), Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords.
- Aseptic Technique, Isolation Precautions, Radiation Safety, Sharps Safety, Specimen Handling/Labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure.
- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance HDD in order to meet fingerprinting requirements.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification.
- Teaching Hospital experience.
- Trauma Level I experience.
Special Considerations:
- On-call required as needed for the department.
- Must live >50 miles from facility to apply.
- Weekend shifts are required once a month, totaling 16 hours of obligation.
- All time off must be reviewed and approved by manager.
Scheduling:
- 4x10 Days (0845-1915) shift.
- Schedule requests can be discussed with the manager.
