Job Description

Hueman is partnering with a top client on a confidential search for a Transportation Manager located in Greater Boston, MA.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic-thinking Transportation Manager to oversee our transportation department. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing all aspects of transportation, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and exceptional service delivery. This role requires strong leadership abilities, analytical skills, and hands-on experience with transportation management systems (TMS), including system selection and implementation.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day transportation activities, including routing, dispatching, and tracking shipments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods.
  • Carrier Management: Negotiate contracts, monitor performance metrics, and foster strong relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and carriers to optimize service levels and costs.
  • TMS Management: Leverage expertise in Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to drive efficiency, automate processes, and enhance visibility across the supply chain. 
  • System Implementation: Lead or actively participate in the selection, implementation, and optimization of new TMS platforms, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Analytics and Optimization: Utilize robust analytical skills to review transportation data, identify trends, measure key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement data-driven strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all transportation operations adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, prioritizing safety and compliance standards.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop the transportation team, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in transportation, managing routing & dispatch of a fleet with 20+ vehicles.
  • Work History: A stable work history demonstrating commitment and professional growth.
  • TMS Proficiency: Direct experience using, managing, and preferably implementing a Transportation Management System (TMS).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data sets, solve problems creatively, and make informed decisions.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
